It certainly isn’t that cool toy you use to hop around places! If you’re an SEO, web designer or involved in some online marketing website, you’ve probably come across the term “pogo sticking” once or twice, so what is it?
Pogo-sticking is when a user enters a search in the search engine, clicks on the top result or so, and after a few seconds, because most unfortunately, it hasn’t “answered” their problem, in fact, it hasn’t done much at all to benefit these users! Now that’s a big letdown…
Great pages and great sites seldom have the pogo-sticking problem. This means pogo sticking can be reduced considerably with the correct technique and with a few pointers! --And that’s what this blog post is all about, so stay tuned!
One: Search engines will see the pogo sticking being done almost all the time and hence, decide not to rank your page.
Two: You don’t get to convert leads into customers (or get any likes and shares for that matter).
1-A good idea would be to think like your user-not your customer. Remember, the goal here is getting new customers, so it’s very important to give your SEARCHER what they’re looking for in order to convert them from leads into customers.
2-Have all the answers right there on your page, everything you think a user might want to know, include it! A great way to do this is to ask around, ask people in your office…etc. ex:
• What is the first thing you would like to see when you enter an IT Website?
• What is the first thing that attracts you in a website design?
3-Ask people: What are the most common problems they face when they enter a website- then work on “eliminating” those problems in yours!
4-Great design is highly necessary, in fact, some people (me included) pogo-stick right out of a website if it isn’t “comfortable” to look at!
5-Speed: some people tend to leave a website the moment something in it doesn’t load, or if something is taking more than 2 seconds…. fast loading is a vital ingredient for preventing pogo sticking.
6-Responsive design: Responsive design is when your website fits on all devices without you having to scroll back and forth to see the whole page, you can see why this is necessary in preventing pogo-sticking, you see if you decide to check out a website on your phone and you take ages scrolling around, you’ll get flippin’ bored! So unless this site is amazingly magnificent (which in such case should be responsive) you’re more likely going to shoot right out and find a different site with a similar purpose.
